About Motorsports Park Hastings

Motorsport Park Hastings (MPH) is a purpose-built road course located in the heart of Nebraska, USA. Stretching over 2.23 miles / 3.586 km, it is known for its smooth, flowing design and ample run-off areas, making it a popular destination for club racing, track days and professional driver training. The circuit was created with input from Alan Wilson and has since gained a loyal following in the Midwest motorsport community. A hallmark of the venue is its broad paddock area and welcoming facilities, supporting a wide variety of motorsport disciplines.

The genesis of Motorsports Park Hastings began in 2004 when George Anderson, owner of Gessford Machine Company, joined four partners in purchasing 160 acres of Nebraska cornfield on Hastings' southeastern edge. Anderson's vision extended beyond mere business promotion—he sought to establish Hastings as a motorsports destination. The concept, famously sketched "on a napkin in a local restaurant with friends," transformed from casual conversation into serious development when Anderson recruited South African track designer Alan Wilson.

Wilson brought exceptional credentials to the project, having designed over twenty circuits globally including Autobahn Country Club, Barber Motorsports Park and Miller Motorsports Park. His design philosophy emphasised safety through generous run-off areas whilst creating challenging layouts accessible to amateur drivers. Construction commenced in spring 2006, with the majority of asphalt completed by autumn. The track's 13 turns and three straightaways were configured to Wilson's specifications: a 40-foot-wide ribbon of asphalt designed for speeds exceeding 100 mph whilst maintaining forgiveness for off-track excursions.

Motorsports Park Hastings opened in 2007 as an SCCA-approved circuit, validated by renowned racetrack consultant Martyn Thake. The facility immediately attracted diverse motorsports organisations including NASA Mid-America Region, Rocky Mountain Vintage Racing and Porsche Club of America's Great Plains Region. The track's reputation spread rapidly through the club racing community, praised for its technical challenge combined with Wilson's safety-focused design.

Recognition reached national prominence in February 2009 when Forbes.com designated MPH among the "Best Places to Speed Legally in the United States". This accolade provided significant credibility and marketing value, positioning the Nebraska facility alongside established venues nationwide. The recognition highlighted the track's unique combination of challenging layout, safety features and comprehensive facilities including trackside real estate development—a concept rare in American motorsports.

The subsequent decade witnessed MPH's evolution into a regional motorsports hub. Regular events included SCCA competition, NASA driving education programmes, World Karting Association races and specialty marque gatherings like Mustang Roundup and Viper Rendezvous. The facility developed distinctive features including "The Garages"—trackside condominium units offering ownership opportunities similar to lakeside cabins but with direct track access.

The clubhouse complex, dubbed "The Well at MPH," provided comprehensive event services with 150-person capacity across two levels. This multi-purpose venue hosted racing awards banquets, corporate events, weddings and private parties, diversifying revenue beyond pure motorsports activities. The facility's design incorporated 48 development lots, with approximately 25 sold to private owners seeking unique recreational properties.

Anderson's original investment group of 47 shareholders maintained operations throughout this period, establishing MPH as Nebraska's premier motorsports destination. The track hosted regional championships, national touring series and international vintage racing events, cementing its reputation within the motorsports community whilst contributing significantly to Hastings' local economy.

Despite operational success, the original ownership faced financial pressures by 2017. The facility was listed for nearly $5 million but struggled to attract buyers at that valuation. Market realities in motorsports real estate, combined with operational costs, forced consideration of alternative options.

On 9 October 2019, an absolute auction was conducted on-site at the clubhouse. Nearly 60 bidders attended, but the hammer fell at $670,000 plus buyer's premium, totalling $737,000—substantially below the original $2.5 million investment. The successful bid represented a consortium of five anonymous local investors from the Tri-City area, whose spokesperson was Chad Dolan of Gibbon, Nebraska, who also promoted racing at Dawson County Speedway in Lexington.

The new ownership group immediately committed to facility improvements and expansion. Their investment philosophy differed from Anderson's original vision, focusing on diversified revenue streams including monster truck events, concerts and expanded corporate entertainment alongside traditional motorsports programming.

The most significant development occurred in October 2021 when the entire track surface underwent complete resurfacing. This major infrastructure investment—covering the main circuit, pit lane, pit entrance and pit exit—created what management described as "the newest asphalt road racing surface in the region". The improved surface enhanced both safety and performance whilst demonstrating the new owners' commitment to maintaining MPH's competitive standards.

In October 2021, the facility appointed Jeff Lacina as General Manager, bringing extensive motorsports experience including previous work at Heartland Park Topeka and his own Track Guys Performance Driving Events business. Recent operations have maintained the facility's diverse programming including AHRMA (American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association) events, NASA regional championships and club racing weekends.
